Lai Wah Restaurant

Happened to be around Bendemeer and this good friend of mine suddenly suggested to go to this Lai Wah restaurant for dinner. He mention to us that this restaurant started way before we were born, is an old traditional Chi Zar restaurant. This restaurant was located below the HDB flat and thou is located near the main road but it can hardly be seen unless to those who have been here before or stay around this area.

This restaurant give me a very old school feeling like those older generation who held their wedding in this kind of restaurant, it was not crowded yet when the time we reached. We were served with a plate of peanut and chinese tea when we were seated. They have quite alot of variety and they also served set menu here. I wanted Prawn Paste Chicken Wing but the auntie said they don't have it anymore, kinda of disappointed. So ended up we decided on the Fried Prawn, Garlic Pork Chop, Belacan Kangkong, Sweet & Sour Fish and Fu Rong Egg. Their menu are mainly in chinese, pardon me for this as I can't really remember the name of the dish.

I must admit that the food here are quite nice but the price range are a little steep maybe due to their popularity. Overall the bill comes up to $75 for 3 person, whether is it expensive or not is up to you all to judge.

Their address printed on the napkin

- Garlic Pork Chop
I thought it will come in slices because it stated Pork Chop but it was in chunk. This is really nice, the meat is very tender and fragrant. The taste of garlic is just nice, not to strong, give this dish a try.

-Sweet and Sour Fish
By looking at the colour of the fish my feeling tell me that this dish is not going to be nice but surprising it taste better than I thought. The fish was soft and fresh and the sauce match perfectly.

-Belacan Kangkong
This dish is almost the same as what we ate outside but here their Belacan is not very spicy and the vegetable is very crunchy and fresh.

-Fried Prawn
Okay, this dish is expensive lolz. I do not know what is that called that wrap with the prawn but it is very crispy and most of all is not oily. Prawn are big and fresh, no shell and it is very crunchy.

-Fu Rong Dan
Hmmm.... Common dishes nothing much to said on this.

Furama Riverfront The Square

My sister has this Buffet Club member so we decide to go to Furama Riverfront to try out their buffet on my sister birthday. At first I got them confuse because I told there is only one Furama which is located at Outram than I realise I lead them to the wrong Furama lols.

Furama Riverfront is near to the famous club disco Zouk. The restaurant we had our buffet is called The Square. There isn't much crowd when we arrived, the restaurant was quite big, quiet and ambience was quite nice too. But but but the food here was so-so only, no fresh oyster and the variety was very little too. Their sashimi was very fresh and I like their apple strudel, I ate 2 of this :P

Though their buffet is consider cheap but for the food they serve I will said is not worth it. This will be the first and the last time I visit them. Original price was around $35 per head for dinner.

Like:
Sashimi
Pasta
Panda Chicken
Apple strudel

Chuan Lai Guo Zhi Wang (Macpherson Kway Chap)

I was craving for the kway chap at Macpherson and it was just a 5 min drive from my office. A nice brother of mine came all the way down to accompany me for lunch as I was so sick of the food around my office lols.

I guess I don't need to introduce much on the kway chap here as it was so popular and well known among every of us. But one thing to highlight the kway chap here are quite expensive, we order a plate of the mixed pig organ with duck meat and 2 kway for 2 person cost us $13. Try their fried pig intestine ($8) is crispy and nice. Best thing about their kway chap here is that they are not very oily and their pig organ are properly clean as they don't have the stinky smell. They are open till midnight so anyone craving for kway chap late at night may consider coming here.

Jerry's BBQ & Grill (Jalan Kayu)

Went out for supper on last saturday, had no idea what to eat at first and out of the sudden I craved for buffalo wings. So we head to Jalan Kayu to tried Jerry's since seletar had closed for order at the time we went out.

Jerry's was located along the stretch of the Selegie Beancurd stall. Jerry's is quite a nice place to chill or relax and chat chit with friends, I wished I had come earlier. Their Buffalo Wings only have 3 levels to choose from, I am a person who can't really take spicy so I choosed the level one which was called Smoked Buffalo Wings and a plate of Calamari Rings.

Calamari was crispy and luckily it was soft and not taste like 'rubber' lolz :P Buffalo wings, nicely decorate but can't taste any spicyness at all. The buffalo wings taste like sweet and sour chicken to me, is like fried chicken wings with the sweet and sour sauce over it. It is really different from what I ate at seletar, I still prefer Seletar over Jerry's but if the wings at Seletar will be as crsipy as Jerry's wow I think it will be perfect lolz :P

Total bill: $32 for 2 person another thing to add the Buffalo Wings at Jerry's is cheaper than the one at Seletar.

Hog's Breath Robertson Walk

Have I update my blog on Hog's Breath? Oh dear I must have miss it lols

A salesman came to my office on a particular and sold me this promotion card for $25 for Hog's Breath 1-for-1 at Robertson Walk, I was tempted and so I brought the card from him. Made a reservation and met up my friends at Hog's for dinner to enjoy the offer. Wow this place is seriously very quiet, no crowds and the only noisy thing we can hear was the blender lols.

On their menu majority are beef and for a non beef eater like me there is nothing much I can eat, so I ordered a Fish and Chip for myself as for my friends they order a Jack Chicken, Beef Steak and a Beef Steak with Prawn and Buffalo Wings to share.

Fish and Chip as you can see from my picture the serving was so pathetic, nothing much to comment on this, it is just like those that can be found at Kopi Diam. Jack Chicken I should have ordered this instead it is so much better than my Fish and Chip. The sauce of this Jack Chicken taste like BBQ sauce to me lols. My friends who ordered the Beef steak said it was quite good, I guess that is because their more specialist in Beef. Buffalo Wings was good but compare to Seletar I think I still like this :P

Without this card I doubt I will come here for dinner. Total bill comes up to $20(estimated) per pax after the 1-for-1 promotion.

Tiffany Cafe @ Furama City Centre

It was my friend birthday so we decided to treat her to Tiffany Cafe for dinner. They are having this 1-for-1 with OUB cards so I would say is pretty affordable for the price you pay and for the food you get at Tiffany Cafe. Pretty crowded during dinner time even it was a weekday and it was quite noisy too due to the crowds. My friend wanted to order a can of coke but was shocked when they are selling a can of coke at $6! Is was a International buffet but not much of varieties, no Oyster and Japanese corner only have Salmon and Squid which is kind of pathetic. I went to try the raw sotong from the salad corner which make me feel like throwing up after chewing on it. Chef corner only have 3 types, BBQ stingray, Mutton and Crispy noodle with gravy. We had their dessert more LOL the Durian Puree was a bit disappointed it does not have the strong fragrant of the Durian smell, the Chocolate Eclairs was not bad. For me I think once is enough I doubt I will go back for their buffet again. Buffet dinner at Tiffany Cafe is at $41++ on weekdays.

Must try:
1) Cooked Prawns (Sweet, juicy and fresh)
2) Crispy noodle with gravy
3) Mutton (no mutton smell)
4) Smoked Salmon
5) Salmon (Fresh)
6) Durian Puree (so-so)
7) Chocolate Eclairs

Gallery by the Straits (Sembawang Yacht Club)

My boy brought me here for dinner yesterday, this place is seriously Ulu and seriously if you don't drive is very hard to come here also. Let's say if you take a cab here you will need to call a cab out lolz!!! or you walk about 20 minutes out. The ambience of this place is nice because is located beside the waterfront also a family place as I saw alot of family's and also couple who come here for dinner. They have live band on weekend I would say that this place is quite relaxing.

Looking through their menu they have some BBQ items, chinese and western food and when I observe most people was having chinese food. Saw the review online alot of people mention that their Curry Fish Head is a must try so we order their popular dish with Beancurd with Chicken Meat. Just take note that their plain rice portion is quite small and their lime juice is free flow.

Their Curry Fish Head was serve in a claypot just be caution that the gravy might split on you. The gravy of the curry was very thick!!! As you can see from my picture the gravy was so thick that I couldn't even see the fish meat. My boy say it was very nice, I admit it was nice because of the strong and thick coconut gravy and the spicness but the fish was so little same goes to the vegetable, I hardly see any lady finger inside. Next is the beancurd, OMG!!! there is a strand of HAIR on the cauliflower after we had ate the beancurd so I requested to change. The first thing the waitress do was she took that plate of beancurd away and was discussing with her colleague before she bring it to the kitchen. They said they will change a new plate for us but I felt that it was actually the previous one because the portion was still the same. Very bad sevice provided!!!

Total bill comes up to $38 for 2 person, the curry fish head was $22. I think I will still prefer the Jurong West Curry Fish Head than here which I felt is more worth it.

Curry Fish Head @ Jurong West Blk 496

Was at Jurong area and my boy has been telling me that there is a place that sell very nice Curry Fish Head so we went there for dinner. It was located at Blk 496 Jurong West inside a coffee shop, there is only one stall that is selling Curry Fish Head. We order a small serving  of Curry Fish Head I think is about $15 and a plate of vegetable with plain rice.

The Curry Fish Head was serve in a claypot, as you can see there is alot of vegetable inside and I am suprise there is pineapple inside too. The gravy was very nice especially with rice, for me I can't really take spicy but I still can manage with this :P After a few sip of the gravy I started to have running nose LOL!!! The fish was very fresh and smooth, no fishy smell and I would say the portion was quite big.

Not too sure if this Curry Fish Head stall was popular in Jurong but I will definitely recommend it to my friends :D

Ju Shin Jung (West Coast)

I was craving for Korean BBQ for weeks lolz and my girlfriend suggested this place as she came here before. This place was recommended by a variety show in Channel 8 long time ago I always wanted to come here to try but it was too far away from where I stay and I would say if you are not driving this place could be quite inconvenient.

This place is oppsite Haw Par Villa located at YESS Centre, they have a indoor playground for children and they have 2 types of sitting area for you to choose from. Service wise I would say is average, sometimes helpful sometimes not. When we are settling our bill the staff actually forgot to give us the change so this is something to take note of. Their Unlimited Buffet is only on weekday so we order 2 soup and 2 meat for BBQ. They have a lot of side dishes and if you are having rice, simply with all this side dishes to go with can make you full already.

Their Pumpkin Soup is very sweet and taste like dessert to me :P I love their Kimchi is very nice and their Ikan Bilis too. Their Ginseng Soup is very light it can be a bit bland for some that's why they provide salt, the Ginseng taste is quite strong and the chicken inside is very tender with strong Ginseng taste too. The staff actually helped to scooped the soup for us. Next is the Spicy Seafood Soup, it look red and spicy but is not spicy at all but the soup is very nice too quite similar to Kimchi soup. Both of the soup we order the portion are just nice for 4 person to share. We order 1 marinated pork and 1 chicken, the staff also helped us to cooked and cut up the meat. After the meat is done u wrapped with the vegetable along with the sauce they provided and eat..... Yummylicious :P The meat is sweet and tender I like it with the bean paste sauce :D Lastly is the dessert, free 1 piece of watermelon per person and a sweet drink they called it rice grain water, I have no idea what is that but is very light and sweet.

I had a very full and satisfy dinner, thanks to my girlfriend :) Total bill come up to $103 for 4 person.

Pu Tien Restaurant Jurong Point

Went over to Jurong Point on Sunday and decided to go Pu Tien for dinner. We took a quene number at 6.30pm and we got our table at around 7.15pm so I guess is better to make a reservation than to wait so long for a table. They used to have have set menu for 2pax at $38 but they have it was no longer available.
Here's what we order
1)Deep Fried Pork Knuckle ($4.90/ea min 2 pcs), Deep Fried Knuckle the skin was crispy but a bit too saltish for my liking, not much meat but more fats :P The spices they use to marinate the pork are quite nice and fragrant.
2) Beancurd with Kailan ($10.90), this dish is quite normal nothing much to comment about it.
3)700g Seabass Steam Fish ($30+), the fish was very fresh but I realise there is some sort of weird smell or taste of the fish than my boy told me, that is because the fish is breed by them unlike those from the market. The fish was soft and tender, the sauce was very tasty but  abit saltish too. The serving of the fish was just nice for 2 person.
4) Chilli Live Mussel ($12.90), is like the 'lala' we ate at those bbq stall in Newton Circus. The sauce was spicy and nice but there is more empty shell than the mussel.
5) A pot of Chrysanthemum tea, light and refreshing that is what you need after a heavy meal :)
Overall $77 for the total bill, might be a little too expensive for 2 person, not wise to come here often for dinner. I think they have 10% discount on certain credit card on weekday.

Hong Ji Claypot Bak Kut Teh 宏记砂锅肉骨茶 (Marsiling Lane)

I always wanted to try this ba ku teh stall, finally went to tried it for lunch on a sunday afternoon. Here, they serve herbal type of ba ku teh, honestly speaking I find it quite hard to find herbal type of ba ku teh nowdays, mostly are pepperish type. Not much crowd during the lunch hour so our food came quite fast.

We order a claypot with mixed ba ku teh, you tiao and a small claypot of braised pig intestine. The herbal taste of the soup is just nice for me :P not too strong and not too bitter, perfect :) But I find that the tau pok in the soup does taste weird with the soup. As for the braised pig intestine was a little bit of disappointed, the braising taste was not strong enough but the texture was very soft and chewy, too bad. For those living in the north craving for ba ku teh may come here and give a try :)

Little Vietnam

A colleague of mine brought us to this place for dinner. The restaurant is tucked at the corner of Grandlink Square, hardly people will notice this place. Is a small, family style kind of restaurant and is a little dim inside that I have to on the flash light to take picture. Surprising, the food aren't expensive, price start from $5 which is very affordable. And they are only open from evening till midnight.

Here what we order, Fried Chicken Wing, Mixed Finger Food, Crabmeat Style Soup, LaLa, Garlic Cockles, Vietnam Popiah and some others. I actually order more when I went there the 2nd time so you can see how nice the food they serve here that I even went back again :P Oh... don't forget to order their traditional Vietnam coffee and try when you are here, if you are a coffee lover you will love the rich and aromatic coffee taste. Total bill is around $80 plus to share among 9 of us, quite reasonable isn't?

Fried Chicken - Is so juicy and tender but is a bit oily, anyway fried chicken wing is already fatty who cares that additional of oil :P

Mixed Finger Food - Something for you to snack before your main comes :D

Crabmeat Style Soup - You just got to tried this, the soup base is thick like those shark fin soup with sliver needle noodle (lao shu fen) inside with some pork meat. The soup is really nice, I actually order this again when I went back there.

Lala - Cooked in soup style, worth a tried :)

Garlic Cockles - This is something different to me, seriously is my first time having cockles fried with garlic. Some may afraid to eat cockles because of the bloody and raw taste but this is so much nicer and no more bloods on your hands. We order 3 plates of this, it taste very fragrant after fried with the garlic and not over cooked and not forgetting to dip with their special chilli sauce, thumbs up :D

Vietnam Popiah - I don't really like this, tasteless and have a strong taste of raw vegetable.

Peramakan Keppel Club

Exam finally over, I have some free time to update my blog already. My brother knew I love Peranakan food and brought me to Keppel Club to tried out authentic peranakan food.

Hmmmm... This place is not very convenient so is either by your own transport or by a cab because there is no public transport to come here. I guess this restaurant is quite famous because they are all fully booked for dinner so no walked in are attended. So if you want to come and try their food remember to make your reservation early. The staff are quite friendly and their service is quite good also. The restaurant look very classy and nice.

The dishes on the menu all comes in one size accept the soup. We order Assam Fish, Babi Pongteh, Buah Keluak, Meat Ball Soup, Durian Puff, Durian Pancake and Durian Pengat. At the end of the dinner my brother told me that if you ate their durian items you won't smell the durian after you burp, how true is it I really have no idea. Anyway I leave this place very satisfied and with a heavy stomach :P
Total bill comes up to $160 for 5 person :)

Assam Fish - Fish is very tender and soft, no fishy smell... The fish along with the spicy and sour gravy, thumbs up!!!

Babi Pongteh - This dish is actually the Braised Pork Belly With Salted Bean Paste... The meat is like melt in your type, I can't really taste the fatty part :P

Buah Keluak - Some may start to wonder what is this black things... This dish can be found in every peranakan food. This is a nut shell with paste in it which they will use it to cook with meat, normally with chicken. The taste of the buah keluak is somewhat astringent with delicate underpinnings of bitterness. For me, I like to dig out the paste inside and goes with my white rice which make my rice more fragrant.

Pork Meat Ball Soup - This is my favorite soup that I won't miss it... The soup is clear and light, the meat is very juicy and tender.

Durian Pancake - I starting to miss this dessert... The pancake is hot but the durian cream is cold and creamy, one each is really not enough :P

Durian Penget - Is like durian moose to me, thick and creamy with bites of durian flesh inside and the base is made of sweet potatoe. Thou the serving is not very big but I still find that 1 bowl might be too much for 1 person especially for girls :P

Durian Puff - How can I miss this? It is very soft and puffy with yummy durian cream inside but I will still prefer the Durian Pancake  :)

Fish Mart Sakuraya

Busy busy busy.... Was quite busy recently preparing for my exam, stress but also not forgetting to pamper myself with some nice food to ease my stress :P My boy has been telling me about this place which serve very fresh sashimi at Parkway Parade and brought me there last weekend.

This place was located at the basement of Parkway Parade inside a Japanese supermarket. The seats are quite limited and it is very crowded even we went at 8pm. Their service is quite good, they took my number and called me once there is seats. At first I was quite doubtful on how fresh the sashimi can be when they are all already pre-pack like what we usually saw at other supermarket. You picked what you want and they will slice it up and serve it to you. Other than sashimi they also serve other food, there is a menu for you to look through.

The Salmon and Tuna sashimi is really fresh, no fishy smell or taste and not thinly slice and we also order some maki to go along with. Total bill was around $30 for the sashimi alone but for the kind of portions and quality, it was worth it. :D
