Hong Ji Claypot Bak Kut Teh 宏记砂锅肉骨茶 (Marsiling Lane)

I always wanted to try this ba ku teh stall, finally went to tried it for lunch on a sunday afternoon. Here, they serve herbal type of ba ku teh, honestly speaking I find it quite hard to find herbal type of ba ku teh nowdays, mostly are pepperish type. Not much crowd during the lunch hour so our food came quite fast.

We order a claypot with mixed ba ku teh, you tiao and a small claypot of braised pig intestine. The herbal taste of the soup is just nice for me :P not too strong and not too bitter, perfect :) But I find that the tau pok in the soup does taste weird with the soup. As for the braised pig intestine was a little bit of disappointed, the braising taste was not strong enough but the texture was very soft and chewy, too bad. For those living in the north craving for ba ku teh may come here and give a try :)

Herbal Ba Ku Teh... Thumbs Up :D

Little Vietnam

A colleague of mine brought us to this place for dinner. The restaurant is tucked at the corner of Grandlink Square, hardly people will notice this place. Is a small, family style kind of restaurant and is a little dim inside that I have to on the flash light to take picture. Surprising, the food aren't expensive, price start from $5 which is very affordable. And they are only open from evening till midnight.

Here what we order, Fried Chicken Wing, Mixed Finger Food, Crabmeat Style Soup, LaLa, Garlic Cockles, Vietnam Popiah and some others. I actually order more when I went there the 2nd time so you can see how nice the food they serve here that I even went back again :P Oh... don't forget to order their traditional Vietnam coffee and try when you are here, if you are a coffee lover you will love the rich and aromatic coffee taste. Total bill is around $80 plus to share among 9 of us, quite reasonable isn't?

Fried Chicken - Is so juicy and tender but is a bit oily, anyway fried chicken wing is already fatty who cares that additional of oil :P

Mixed Finger Food - Something for you to snack before your main comes :D

Crabmeat Style Soup - You just got to tried this, the soup base is thick like those shark fin soup with sliver needle noodle (lao shu fen) inside with some pork meat. The soup is really nice, I actually order this again when I went back there.

Lala - Cooked in soup style, worth a tried :)

Garlic Cockles - This is something different to me, seriously is my first time having cockles fried with garlic. Some may afraid to eat cockles because of the bloody and raw taste but this is so much nicer and no more bloods on your hands. We order 3 plates of this, it taste very fragrant after fried with the garlic and not over cooked and not forgetting to dip with their special chilli sauce, thumbs up :D

Vietnam Popiah - I don't really like this, tasteless and have a strong taste of raw vegetable.

Peramakan Keppel Club

Exam finally over, I have some free time to update my blog already. My brother knew I love Peranakan food and brought me to Keppel Club to tried out authentic peranakan food.

Hmmmm... This place is not very convenient so is either by your own transport or by a cab because there is no public transport to come here. I guess this restaurant is quite famous because they are all fully booked for dinner so no walked in are attended. So if you want to come and try their food remember to make your reservation early. The staff are quite friendly and their service is quite good also. The restaurant look very classy and nice.

The dishes on the menu all comes in one size accept the soup. We order Assam Fish, Babi Pongteh, Buah Keluak, Meat Ball Soup, Durian Puff, Durian Pancake and Durian Pengat. At the end of the dinner my brother told me that if you ate their durian items you won't smell the durian after you burp, how true is it I really have no idea. Anyway I leave this place very satisfied and with a heavy stomach :P
Total bill comes up to $160 for 5 person :)

Assam Fish - Fish is very tender and soft, no fishy smell... The fish along with the spicy and sour gravy, thumbs up!!!

Babi Pongteh - This dish is actually the Braised Pork Belly With Salted Bean Paste... The meat is like melt in your type, I can't really taste the fatty part :P

Buah Keluak - Some may start to wonder what is this black things... This dish can be found in every peranakan food. This is a nut shell with paste in it which they will use it to cook with meat, normally with chicken. The taste of the buah keluak is somewhat astringent with delicate underpinnings of bitterness. For me, I like to dig out the paste inside and goes with my white rice which make my rice more fragrant.

Pork Meat Ball Soup - This is my favorite soup that I won't miss it... The soup is clear and light, the meat is very juicy and tender.

Durian Pancake - I starting to miss this dessert... The pancake is hot but the durian cream is cold and creamy, one each is really not enough :P

Durian Penget - Is like durian moose to me, thick and creamy with bites of durian flesh inside and the base is made of sweet potatoe. Thou the serving is not very big but I still find that 1 bowl might be too much for 1 person especially for girls :P

Durian Puff - How can I miss this? It is very soft and puffy with yummy durian cream inside but I will still prefer the Durian Pancake  :)
