Satay Culture

My girlfriend saw this Satay Culture on qoo10.sg and asked us out to try it. So we went on one Wednesday evening, it was crowded at all. Only 3 groups of diner there.

We alight at Farrer park, went into City Square mall, cross the traffic lights towards Pu Tien restaurant and walked for another 8 mins to reach this restaurant. They do have baby high chair if you plan to bring your little one.

We went for their buffet, if I am not wrong we paid around $24 per pax. For ala carte menu, they charge by per colour stick. Range from $1 and above. Since we have 7 of us, the lady boss gave us 2 pots! So we opt for satay based and soup for another one. Basically the soup one is those which you could grilled or boiled. Satay sauce comes with peanut crumbs, not too thick that will make you sick of it! I actually prefer the satay sauce over the teppanyaki pan  and I love the cuttlefish in the satay sauce, it just match perfectly!!

Punggol Seafood @ Punggol Settlement

Chance upon this restaurant after we cycle at Punggol settlement and we had returned again for their super nice Roasted Chicken! This time round I called and made a reservation because they are usually packed on weekends.

Punggol seafood used to be located at Marina Country Club before they moved over. Each time I was there I saw the boss who is helping to arrange and making sure the dishes is neat and clean before it is been serve. It also seems to me that this restaurant are their own family business. As usual, I will ordered their Roasted Chicken, a Red Grouper fish soup in claypot, Vegetable with Bai Ling Gu, Sambal Lala & Fuyong Egg. Before I start to recommend their dishes, allow me to rant!

On my 2nd visit, I met this super rude auntie! I asked her to take our ordered so I checked with her if there is any smaller sized of the steamed fish? As I planned to get the small one for my toddler so I could ordered more of other dishes. Guess what? This rude auntie start to raise her voice when I only asked her the 2nd time!! She is not wearing the staff uniform which I guess she must be one of the family member who runs this place. And she replied saying that since I kept asking this and that than she go checked with the kitchen 'lor'! What attitude is that? So I ignored her and ask their staff to take my order instead. Things don't end here, that rude auntie came back to us but she told that staff to pass the message to me of what smallest fish they had today! AM I TRANSPARENT? Probably she had a very bad day, I am just unlucky to provoke her!

Roasted Chicken - $15 for half and is good enough for 3 adults and my elder daughter. This dishes evoked nostalgic memories of the olden days where they served this dish on Chinese Weddings. It is served with Prawn Crackers and the chicken was so tender, not dry at all! The best part is the skin, so thin and crispy! 

Fuyong Egg - Nothing to shout about

Sambal Lala ($12) - The gravy was not that spicy and it is quite similar to the chilli crabs sauce. But when I had my 1st bite, I go "OUCH"! The clams was so sandy and it stinks! So disappointed! 

Red Grouper soup in claypot ($36) - After been annoyed by that rude auntie, I decided to order this. So happy that I made the right choices! The milky soup is so rich, fragrant & tasty! I drank 3 bowls of it!

Lastly is the vegetable, I ordered this because of the mushroom. Sorry, too busy eating and forgot to snap a picture The spinach is cooked in gravy with thick slices of the mock abalone (Bai Ling Gu), is quite nice too!

Total damage, we paid around $80+ for all the dishes which include drinks and the white rice. I find their price is pretty affordable and I will definitely be back for their Roasted Chicken again!

Orto - Long Jiang Chinos

After Bottle Tree has closed down we yet to visit this newly revamp place which also renamed to Orto. Pretty similar concept with fishing, prawning and kiddos are able to catch some guppies home. Well I didn't tried that so I couldn't advise if it's free or come with a fees. I would said things here are much expensive than before. You can get more details on Bumblebeemum website. Their prawning area and I guess the kiddos play area are separated into two sides. Is a small walked 'up hill' which I was too hungry to go up and explored  So after a stroll around their fishing area we head to the Long Jiang Restaurant for our dinner. 

They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We are seated quite close to the outdoor side, thankfully the weather was good and wasn't that hot. I tried google for review but there isn't much on it, nerveless I still hoping their food is good. Here's what we ordered:

Forgotten if this is Scallop or Lobster soup  And when it was served, I thought it will be like those soup we had at Jack's Place. But it turn out to be light and tasty unlike those thick and creamy version.

Kong Ba Pau (Braised Pork Belly) - Ordered this dish as it comes with the soft steamed bun which I can let my boy to snack on. The pau was indeed very soft and fluffy. The pork was very well braised, flavorful and very tender! Even my 76 years old mother-in law like it!

Tofu - The sauce was a little blend, nothing much to shout about

Salted Egg Prawn Ball - This was my favorite of all dishes! It taste more like cereal prawn to me   I couldn't really taste any salted egg but the prawn was succulent, slightly milky taste and very well coated!

Vegetable with mei cai

Seafood Fried Rice - Is a little blend, I ordered this for my boy so it suit him perfectly!

We also ordered their Blacken Noodle, taste like Penang Hokkien Mee to me. Overall we paid about $120 included drinks. Service was good, they have baby bowl and utensils and nice scenery. I would recommend and would be back again. I felt it is pretty worth it compare to 'Dian Xiao Er', whereby we paid $90 but we don't get as much as we had here.

Ba Li Pan Da Jia Fa Duck Rice - 八里半大家发鸭肉

Johorkaki was my favorite blog whenever I need help in JB foods. And I happen to saw this particular review which he wrote about this fabulous duck rice located at Jalan Skudai. Don't ask me where is the exact location, all I know is that we pass by Sutera Mall. Thankfully he provided the GPS: 1.523723, 103.6724 details and we manage to get to the place smoothly!

You got to park at the roadside, there isn't any proper parking area here. And yes, this 'open concept' restaurant is under a Big Tree! Having a little toddler, I'm always concern if there is any baby chair at the place that we are going. They do have a very 'antique' high chair which is made of those rainbow plastic strips and is clean! Expect a long queue during lunch hour!

Tau Kwee - This dish came first and we waited around 15mins for the others to come. Is very soft with a little taste of herbal.

Mixed Organs - Sadly no more pig bloods, they have stop selling   It is nicely braised, no stinky smell and tender.

Duck meat - You can find lots of tender and juicy meats instead of bones. With a some taste of herbal and goes perfectly with their chills! 

Kway Tiao - Since I am here, I choose to tried this. Probably not my liking as the gravy is thicker like having lor mee and the kway tiao has absorb much of the sauce that makes the whole dish heavy, sorry.

Total damange: $35RM with 3 drinks! My goodness, where can you find such price with so many foods? FYI, I ordered for 2 adults to share with my older kid. Filling, nice food and definitely worth the return! My hub won't mind the drive for good food!

Prima Tower Revolving Restaurant - Dim Sum

I have never been here and hub also wanted to tried out their food. Hub drove in (look so industry to me) and not sure where to park and we found a valet outside the building and he park for us. Like others who had said, the lift won't bring you up directly to the restaurant. You got to take a escalator and than a few stairs to reach the place.

At first I don't feel it is really turning till I went to focus on the floor and started to feel a little giddy  Looking through the menu and comparing to 'Bosses' located at Vivo, I find their price is still reasonable. Range from $4 and above for their dim sum but for Bosses is $5 and up! Their ala-carte dishes is quite expensive, which is a mistake that we ordered.

Overall, I feel their dishes are mediocre, I only like the custard bun. I guess this will be my 1st and the last time here.

Kim's Kitchen Tingkat

There is craze over tingkat lunch in my office and I decided to join in with 5 of my colleagues and tried out Kim's Kitchen. Went to do some research  but is was not very good on their review. But I still went ahead and ordered it.

After calculation, it wasn't that cheap but convenient that I do not have to go out or standing at the canteen and don't know what to eat! Anyway is just a 5 days trial, I'm glad the dishes was quite good afterall. They deliver at 11.30am daily, 1st day was caught up as they sent the wrong portion to us. But is was good after that. It comes with plastic container just in case you need to warm up. Somehow remains me of my confinement tingkat lol!!

1st Day menu:
Satay Chicken - Not much of the satay flavor and we actually find it abit weird lol
Tofu with sauce - The sauce is good to go with the rice
Veg - Normal
Winter melon soup - Nice! Not too salty or taste alot of msg!

Day 2 menu:
Fried fish with spring onion - Nice!
Sambal egg - Not those malay style that we are expecting, is like sweet & sour sauce with fried egg.
Veg - Normal
Soup - I forgotten lol

Day 3 menu:
Pork cutlet in sweet & sour sauce - The meat is so hard that you can throw on the floor! lol
Braised Tau Khee - Nice!
Brinjai - All along I never like this dish, hahaha
Pig stomach soup - Nice! (No stinky porky smell)

Day 4 menu:
Fried fish in curry sauce - Nice
Veg - Normal
Fried egg
Soup - I never drink so I'm not sure what is it :P

Day 5 menu:
Fried chicken wings with sauce - Is not hard but tender and goes well with the sauce! Nice!
Fish cake - Taste like those Thai fish cake.
Veg - Normal
Soup - Herbal soup

Overall, I find it not bad but I am not a tingkat person who don't mind having it for a month.

Natal Essentials Confinement Food

Preggy make me lazy and motherhood make me too busy to blog

Manage to get rid my lazy bug and share my confinement tingkat I ordered from Natal Essentials. I decided to go with them since their more popular. I ordered 28 days lunch, some days the portion are enough to save for my dinner but definitely not the soup and the longan tea. You will need a lot and a lot and a lot of water if you are breastfeeding.

Delivery was always around 10 to 11am in the morning and food was still hot when it came. At first the food was very tasty but soon I get bored of it. Imagine having rice every single day and repeated food after a week. Unless you are taking both lunch and dinner I guess the variety won't be so bored.

The picture I attach was vinegar pork trotter which was my favourite but it was very average. I still prefer the famous one in lavender and I even asked my hub to go get it for me. Is kind of disappointing especially they are specialist in catering for confinement food. I had more bones than meat. Fish wise is fresh and take note that their soup even fish soup has herbal in it. Some of their dishes are not bad, portion is good and if you have dishes that you don't like or you can't take their willing to help on it. I told them no alcohol as I am allergy to it so no wine chicken that I can comment on.

Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh @ Kota Tinggi

Went all the way to tried the famous Bak Kut Teh @ Kota Tinggi but I made a mistake to go during PH (9th Aug). Luckily custom was not jam and it took my hub to drive an hour to reach, 45 minutes to Q (look at the picture of the crowd) and 30 minutes to wait for food. It was the longest time waiting for my food ever...

Is so hard to find a table and by the time we ordered is already coming to 11am and mostly all the side dishes has sold out including my favourite you tiao  so we just ordered the Ba Ku Teh and Salted Vegetable.

The soup taste is way different from the one we had in JB, it was really good, strong and favourable but if you ask me to come back here again I will think twice. After this we went to Desaru Ostrich farm which is another hour drive again................
