Linda Seafood @ Patong Phuket

My brother recommended this place for dinner during our trip in Phuket Patong. It is not too far from our hotel called The Nap and it was beside Club Andaman Beach Resort, along the roadside opposite a 7-11 store. The lady boss was very friendly and keep chit chatting with us in dialect (Hokkien).

We ordered their fresh Oyster. Oyster omelette, Asparagus, BBQ butter prawn, deep Fried Squid, steam Stingray with white rice. I also ordered their Mango fruit juice, it was pure, fresh, thick and sweet do consider giving this a try. The advantage of going in a big group is that you can order more good food :P

Fresh Oyster - Fresh and no stinky smell. Unlike the usual way of  having the oyster with tabasco sauce and lemon the lady boss has her way and it taste totally differently and it was very delicious. She personally prepare the oyster for us, she put some homemade thai sweet and spicy sauce with fresh garlic, fried shallots and a piece of the green leaf which I had no idea what is it called and put everything into your mouth, Wow it was great but it may not suit everyone taste bud but still worth a try :)

BBQ Butter Prawn - Prawn was huge, fresh and succulent The buttery sauce in the prawn was nice but somehow the prawn meat taste a little bland to me.

Steamed Stingray - Our local style of stingray is BBQ with sambal sauce and here they steamed the stingray with lots of garlic, coriander, chilli padi and maybe lime. It taste totally different to what I always ate, the sauce was very good it taste like clear tom yum soup. Thumbs up for this dish.

Fried Clams (LaLa) - Quite common so nothing much to said about this dish. Just one thing, at least is was properly clean and no sandy taste.

Fried Squid - This is nice too my girlfriend was saying that this dish taste like cereal squid. It is crispy, easy to chew and not rubbery.

Asparagus - My brother and my dear said that the sauce in this asparagus was very good and goes well with white rice and my brother even finish up the sauce lolz...Aasparagus was crunchy and fresh, yummy :)

Oyster Omeltte - I wonder how they make the omelette so fragrant and fluffy, overall the omelette taste quite nice too.

Total  bills comes up to $2700 baht for 6 person including beer and drinks, very worth it and very reasonable and I will definitely recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family who intend to visit Patong for their holiday. Do note that there are many stalls next to one another along this street and you will be confused as which to pick, as for Linda Seafood is much further down directly opposite a 7-11 store. Last but not least sorry for the bad photo taken :)

Ampang Yong Tau Foo @ Upper Thomson Road

This stall at Upper Thomson Road is always crowded I wonder why. It is next to a Shell station and parking can be quite a hassle. We ordered their set for 2 and a bowl of dumpling soup. The sauce is flavorful, the fried tau kee is a little too salty for my liking and I feel that it doesn't taste as nice as before already. Not much varieties on the yong tau fau as for the soup it just taste very average.

Total for 2 person is $9. Will keep a lookout for other nicer ampang yong tau fu, kinda of disappointed with the food here....

Boon Tong Kee ( Whampoa)

Was here for lunch with my colleagues, I think it was about 5 years already since I last visit BTK. It was a long queue as usually during lunch time. This restaurant was located beside Boon Keng MRT station along those shop houses. Finally it was our turn and we decided to ordered 1/2 white steamed chicken, spinach with century and salted egg and their fried beancurd.

At first I still wonder if their fried beacurd are still the same as usual and it never disappoint me. I love the lightly salted and crispy beancurd skin and the beancurd is smooth, tender and piping hot. My colleague suggested the spinach with century and salted egg, the sauce of this vegetable was thick and sweet, it taste like mui fan sauce to me. The texture of the chicken rice was good it was not too dry or oily and it was very fragrant. Lastly it was the steamed chicken, the thick chunky meat was smooth and tender best to dip with the chilli and ginger sauce.

Overall the bill comes up to $45 for 5 person with a pot of tea and complimentary chocolate. The reason for coming back again I guess is for their fried beancurd.

Empire State (Iluma @ Bugis)

Square pizza? Yes they serve square pizza here, don't blame me for been a 'sua gu' (geek) is really my first time eating square pizza lolz. I choose Hawaiian flavour for our square pizza, it was slice into 9 pieces just nice for 2 adult and a child. And we saw a few ordering their Roasted Chicken so we ordered a whole chicken to shared. This place somehow remind me of New York New York even their menu are quite similar.

The roasted chicken is huge I should have ordered 1/2 to shared instead. The chicken can be quite bland without going with the sauce and it was served with a generous amount of fries. We like the pizza at least the crust is not so thick that will make us feel so bloated and each slices are just nice and not served in big pieces.

Total bill comes up to $34 after the gst and the service tax. I will come back again to tried their mini burger it is also a nice place for a mini gathering with your friends :)

Roasted Whole Chicken $11.90

Hua Ting @ Orchard Hotel

It was my dear birthday, at first I thought of bring him for buffet but he would prefer chinese food so after some research I decided to go Hua Ting Restaurant at Orchard Hotel.

Hua Ting an authentic cantonese and fine dining restaurant is located at Orchard hotel level 2. Their Roast Duck are very popular here which is something that cannot be miss. Service are really good, staff are very friendly also and if you need any recommendation do ask them because some of the food they recommended to us are not on the menu. For your info it will take them quite some time to serve the food, I actually wanted to ordered dessert but we are running late for our movie so end up I give it a miss. I am puzzled why our Crabmeat fried rice was served last it make me feel like dining at a wedding dinner lolz...

And so we ordered 1/4 of Roast Duck with Roast Pork, Prawn prepare in 2 ways, Prawn in Scallop Sauce, Asparagus and Crab meat fried rice. Total bills for 2 person cost $125, for that price and quality of food I felt is worth it :)

Appetizer - This fried beancurd was served to us once we are seated. Taste quite nice, a little salty and a little sweet

Pu Er Cha, my dear said that when this 2 cups place together it looked like a heart shape lolz

Roast Duck  - The skin was crispy and lightly sweet from the gravy while the meat was tender. Thumbs up for this no wonder it is so popular here.
Roast Pork - The skin of the pork was crackling crispy followed by a bite of the juicy fat and the tender savoury of the meat, yummylicious. The roast pork is 肥而不腻 I doubt I can find this kind of roast pork outside.

Prawn prepare in 2 ways - The prawn is fresh and big but when it said prepare in 2 ways sorry I really can't taste any different but it is still very nice :P

Prawn in Scallop Sauce - Hello!!! Where is my Prawn? Lolz
The prawn is buried inside the scallop sauce with hidden vegetable below, the scallop sauce is sweet but I felt like I am drinking 'thick' creamy scallop soup.

Asparagus - I love this dish, the fine and fragrant of the garlic is well spread around the asparagus which makes this dish very tasty.

Crabmeat Fried Rice - Our fried rice which came last... it was stated in the menu it is meant for one person but I share it with my dear. I guess I have no more space for the rice after all the dishes I ate earlier lolz. One think I liked about the fried rice that sells at the zi char stall or restaurant is the fluffy egg, the golden hue of the rice, the smooth texture and aromatic fragrance from the rice which we are not able to get it from home cooked fried rice.

Por Kee Eating House

It was a gathering for my dear birthday with a group of friends so I went google for nice zi char place and found this Por Kee Eating House behind Tiong Bahru market. Por Kee is situated in a carpark at tiong bahru, is a old style chinese restaurant. They have both outdoor and indoor which is their so called 'aircon' place and there is another aircon place beside the main restaurant. Luckily I have made the reservation if not I doubt we can find any seat. They are already packed by 630pm, all outdoor seats are filled up and the indoor are mainly for reservation only.

We ordered their specialist dish Champagne Pork Rib, Cereal Prawn, Dou Miao and Baby Squid. At first I wanted their deep fried sotong but the auntie told us not to ordered because is not nice and so she suggested the baby squid. Peanut and wet tissue is a must even we have tried to return it lolz... Total bill is about $105 for 6 person. I would said their price range is slightly higher than those normal zi char we ate at coffeeshop maybe is due to their popularity I guess.

Champagne Pork Rib ~ I never tried this dish due to my allergy to alcohol but the smell of the champagne is strong and fragrant and sweet. My friends who tried said they can't taste any champagne but all of those who tired said they quite like this champagne pork rib.

Cereal Prawn ~I love the cereal which looks like pork floss to me lolz. The cereal taste very buttery but the prawn are a bit tough if not this dish will be perfect.

Dou Miao ~ Their dou miao here is very different from what I ate outside. It is bigger and not those tiny dou miao than I usually ate. Overall this dou miao is not too bad, at least it is soft and don't taste 'old'.

Baby Squid ~ Sweet and crunchy baby squid with a touch of spiciness, good recommendation from the auntie.

Albert Street Hokkien Prawn Mee (Lavender Food Centre)

Was at Lavender Food Centre for supper and decide to order the famous Prawn Noodle here. Wonder why are they called Hokkien Prawn Mee because to me Hokkien Prawn Mee are those stir fried thick vermicelli with yellow noodle. Okay never mind, whenever I saw the prawn noodle stall that will sell pig intestine with prawn noodle I will definitely order this. A bowl of prawn noodle soup with pig intestine cost $5 and it was serve in a claypot with a spoon of chilli powder if you like to add some spicyness in your soup. For your info they only sell noodle soup only.

Tasty prawn soup with lots of msg inside which make me thristhy after finish drinking the soup lolz... The soup is very sweet but the prawn taste are not strong enough. Prawn are fresh but pig intestine are little 'rubbery' kinda of difficult to chew. Overall the prawn noodle are not bad, worth trying I will order it again :)
