Orchard Cafe @ Orchard Hotel

Is durian season and since we are going somewhere for buffet to celebrate my girlfriend birthday we decided on Orchard hotel since they having this dinner and durian buffet together.

Upon reaching the place we were surprised that they actually closed up the smoking area for durian session. I guess is due to the heavy durian smell that why they do it outdoor and restrict us from eating it indoor as well. As for the outdoor area they actually set up an area where they will be a chef opening up the whole durian for you and beside this they also have fried durian and durian waffle. We requested for glove to eat the durian lolz The durian is really good!!! Lots of flesh and baby seed, bitter meat which is my favorite best of all is free 'flow' you can have as many as you want so long your stomach can fill it lolz... Not forgetting the durian puff and waffle, the waffle is hot, crispy and had the strong aromatic smell of the durian, so nice :P

As for the indoor dinner area, for me the variety is okay. They have sashimi area, appetizer, seafood, chinese, indian, dessert and area where there is chef making the laksa and mee rebus for you.

What I like
- Durian corner, durian creme, puff and almost everything: P
- Some variety of cheese and biscuits
- Fresh sashimi
- Fresh oyster
- Fresh prawn
- Laksa
- Pork belly bun

What I dislike
- Curry was cold on top so you have to stir it before you take
- Salted vegetable soup, too sour and salty

Ye Lai Xiang Hot & Cold Cheng Teng @ Bedok Food Centre

One of my girlfriend wanted to try the Cheng Teng after watch a show on channel  introducing this stall. It is located in a hawker centre at Bedok camp area close to Singapore Expo. You may think that is just another common dessert stall in a hawker centre but not for this one. They only sell cheng teng for their dessert thou they have a food stall which sell satay beehoon beside them. Their cheng teng is not cheap as well, each bowl start from $2 - $3 and you will expect a long queue during lunch time.

I ordered a bowl of cold cheng to try. Normally you will get alot of shaved ice but here they served with ice cubes. And one thing which make their cheng teng so special is because of the ingrediants inside. They have the additional of dired winter melon slice and dried persimmon which make the soup taste nicer and more fragrant, very special unlike those normal cheng teng we usually had. And my girlfriend said that most cheng teng was factory made as for this stall we believe the owner cooked it all by himself.

Is really nice to have a nice cooling cheng teng during a hot day, I will recommend it to everyone to give it a tried :)

The Prata Place @ Springlef Garden

Getting too lazy to update my blog lol....

Let me introduce you one of my most favourite place for supper, The Prata Place located at Upper Thomson road next to Hans close to Nee Soon Camp. One thing about this place is that they closed at 12midnight unlike other prata place which operate 24hours. If you always frequent here you will definitely know Mr Sarsi the most friendly staff over here. Weekend can be quite crowded and parking can be quite difficult as well but for the sake of the crispy prata I don't mind at all.

As a regular over here we always ordered the same thing, tea tarik, cheese prata and plain prata. At times we will also try others but will still stick to what we like most :)

Cheese prata - Is huge, crispy and yummy
Plain prata - I simply like this because is really crispy, fluffy and nice and most important is it not too small unlike the plain prata sold elsewhere :P
I  love their fish curry, is not very spicy and not very oily best with their prata :D

Muthu's Curry @ Race Course Road

Purchase a voucher from deal.com.sg at $18 for their big portion fish head curry so I made a reservation with them and head down for dinner with my dear and my brother and my sister.

It was my first time here and regret to come on sunday, the restaurant was located near to little indian station. Restaurant was quite big, pretty crowded during the dinner time and they also serve buffet here. The food here was good but don't expect good services. My brother request for more 'ice' because they only give you 4 cubes in the glassbut the waiter heard my brother requesting for more 'rice' I almost fainted lols.

So we ordered their Fish Head Curry, Gosht Sheekh Kebab, Garlic Naan and Biryani Rice. Total bills come up to $49 excluding the Fish Head Curry for 4 person. The price here I would said is expected to be a little steep as Muthu's Curry are expected to be more commercialise.

The Menu

My favourite Pappadam

Curry Fish Head - Usually is serve 1/2 of the fish head but here it was the whole head. Lots of fresh and smooth fish meat, spicy and nice. Simply love the curry sauce especially having with the biryani :)

Biryani - Is stated in the menu free flow of biryani per person, my brother love rice he must be very happy when he see this lols

Garlic Nann - I was looking forward to this but it turns out to be a little disappointing, the naan taste a bit bland and can't taste any garlic too

Gosht Sheekh Kebab - Recommended by my sis, at first I thought the word was Ghost because it sound so close to it lols. It was too saltish for me and too spicy though there is a sauce for you to go with, it taste like indian hotdog to me lols...

Bali Thai @ NEX Shopping Mall

Met up my girlfriend at NEX for dinner, had no idea what to eat and happen to pop by Bali Thai which is tucked at a corner at level 2 so we decided to try it out.

Not much crowd during dinner time, the restaurant are quite cozy but the food can be served quite slow. We ordered their Tom Yum Soup, Shrimp Paste Fried Rice and Phad Thai.

Tom Yum Soup - Kinda of special when I saw this Tom Yum Soup serve in a claypot. I requested not so spicy because I can't really take spiciness but still a little too spicy for me lols. But overall it is still nice.

Shrimp Paste Fried Rice - I love this and seems like I will always ordered this whenever I ate at a Thai restaurant. The fried rice is too moist but it is very fragrant, remember to go with belacan chilli it will taste even nicer. The sliced chicken was sweet and tender but the fried shrimp was over fried and too hard to chew lols.

Phad Thai - My girlfriend ordered this but I never tried. Smell very frangrant and nice too and the portion are quite big too.

Iced Milk tea - Thai iced milk tea are very different from our local style they taste more milky and stronger taste of the tea.

Oasis Taiwan Porridge @ Toa Payoh

Been here for supper once, is next to Toa Payoh Swimming Complex as for parking wise you may park in front of the complex and walk over. Heard they have another outlet at Kallang but it was closed down already.

They have indoor and outdoor seating but the outdoor are only open in the evening. The pricing of the dishes I will said is quite steep. The teochew porridge is serve in a small pot in regardless how many person you have, you can always ask for another pot if you want to. My friend who had been here a few times told me it depends on your luck on the porridge that you get. If you are lucky you will get a pot of porridge with nice and sweet porridge with soft sweet potatoe inside which they had boil for quite a while if not it will be like me, my luck isn't good I never get to tried the sweet porridge just the plain porridge with semi soft sweet potatoe lols.

And we ordered Sliced Fish with Spring Onion, Braised Pig Intestine with Salted Vegetable and Cold Beancurd with Century Egg to go with the porridge. Total bill comes up to $35 for 2 person with a few dishes which I feel that is kinda of expensive. I think by coming in a bigger group will be more worth it, it will be a nice place to return for supper.

The Menu

 Teochew Muay (Taiwan Porridge)

Sliced Fish with Spring Onion - To me when I heard Sliced Fish it should not have any bones but this does and not just one and also the fish are not fresh, it has a very smelly fishy smell in it.

Cold Beancurd with Century Egg - I like this, the beancurd is smooth silky and chill. The sweet and saltish sauce goes well with the egg and beancurd

Braised Pig Intestine with Salted Vegetable - The pig intestine is properly clean with no stinky smell, is soft and not rubbery, nice.

Linda Seafood @ Patong Phuket

My brother recommended this place for dinner during our trip in Phuket Patong. It is not too far from our hotel called The Nap and it was beside Club Andaman Beach Resort, along the roadside opposite a 7-11 store. The lady boss was very friendly and keep chit chatting with us in dialect (Hokkien).

We ordered their fresh Oyster. Oyster omelette, Asparagus, BBQ butter prawn, deep Fried Squid, steam Stingray with white rice. I also ordered their Mango fruit juice, it was pure, fresh, thick and sweet do consider giving this a try. The advantage of going in a big group is that you can order more good food :P

Fresh Oyster - Fresh and no stinky smell. Unlike the usual way of  having the oyster with tabasco sauce and lemon the lady boss has her way and it taste totally differently and it was very delicious. She personally prepare the oyster for us, she put some homemade thai sweet and spicy sauce with fresh garlic, fried shallots and a piece of the green leaf which I had no idea what is it called and put everything into your mouth, Wow it was great but it may not suit everyone taste bud but still worth a try :)

BBQ Butter Prawn - Prawn was huge, fresh and succulent The buttery sauce in the prawn was nice but somehow the prawn meat taste a little bland to me.

Steamed Stingray - Our local style of stingray is BBQ with sambal sauce and here they steamed the stingray with lots of garlic, coriander, chilli padi and maybe lime. It taste totally different to what I always ate, the sauce was very good it taste like clear tom yum soup. Thumbs up for this dish.

Fried Clams (LaLa) - Quite common so nothing much to said about this dish. Just one thing, at least is was properly clean and no sandy taste.

Fried Squid - This is nice too my girlfriend was saying that this dish taste like cereal squid. It is crispy, easy to chew and not rubbery.

Asparagus - My brother and my dear said that the sauce in this asparagus was very good and goes well with white rice and my brother even finish up the sauce lolz...Aasparagus was crunchy and fresh, yummy :)

Oyster Omeltte - I wonder how they make the omelette so fragrant and fluffy, overall the omelette taste quite nice too.

Total  bills comes up to $2700 baht for 6 person including beer and drinks, very worth it and very reasonable and I will definitely recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family who intend to visit Patong for their holiday. Do note that there are many stalls next to one another along this street and you will be confused as which to pick, as for Linda Seafood is much further down directly opposite a 7-11 store. Last but not least sorry for the bad photo taken :)
